New season starts for the Leeds Children’s Charity

The first group of children of the 2012 holiday season travelled to the Leeds Children’s Holiday Centre, Silverdale, near Morecambe for their holiday by the sea this week.  Over 400 children will enjoy a short break/respite at the holiday centre during the summer and they will all travel by train from Leeds to Silverdale.  Each week until the end of August, a different group of 14 children will enjoy a residential trip to Silverdale with memories that will last a lifetime.

The Leeds Children’s Charity is very fortunate to have the sponsorship of Northern Rail to help with the cost of tickets for the children and their escorts each week.   This sponsorship means that the charity can provide more short breaks/respite for disadvantaged children who would not otherwise have the opportunity to leave difficult home situations and/or responsibilities beyond their years.  We are extremely grateful to Drew Haley, Northern Rail, for all the ongoing support received and hope that this relationship will continue for many years in order to help as many children as possible.

For many children, this is their first train journey.  They have never seen fields or flowers growing in the wild, animals grazing, or the sea and sand.  Their holiday starts at Leeds Station and is a wonderful experience from the minute they leave the station.

If you would like to know more about the Leeds Children’s Charity, or to support its service in any way, please contact by email info@leedschildrenscharity.org.uk or telephone 01132454281.

Zurich Community Trust helps young carers to have a holiday

Leeds Children’s Charity has been awarded £500 towards the cost of providing a week’s holiday for 28 young carers by the Zurich Community Trust.  Zurich Community Trust is the community arm of Zurich in the UK and it is funded by Zurich UK businesses and employee’s generous donations.

Unfortunately, young carers may not have the opportunity to take a break from responsibilities beyond their years.  For this reason, the charity is working closely with Willows, an organisation that supports young carers, to enable two groups of 14 young carers to enjoy time and space to have fun, play, make friends, and to be a child at Leeds Children’s Holiday Centre during the summer months.

Our trustees work continually to obtain much-needed funding to help these children and an award from the Zurich Community Trust is very much appreciated.  The children will benefit enormously from this experience and will return home with lifelong memories of an amazing holiday by the sea.

If you would like to help the Leeds Children’s Charity to support more children in need, please email info@leedschildrenscharity.org.uk or telephone 0113 245 4281.

Amazing support for the charity from Irwin Mitchell

Following a year of very generous and enthusiastic support by Irwin Mitchell LLP,  Leeds Children’s Charity  were presented with a cheque in the sum of £8,405 at the Firm’s New Year celebrations held at Create, King Street, Leeds, yesterday evening.

The trustees have worked closely with the staff at  Irwin Mitchell to raise resources and money in aid of the charity.   Donations of Easter Eggs, clothes, shoes, books, toiletries and washing powder have been taken to Leeds Children’s Holiday Centre throughout the year to be used and consumed by the many hundreds of disadvantaged children who enjoy a stay there.

However, this arrangement was never just about money.  We have enjoyed friendship and fun whilst working together for a common cause.  All the staff have willingly and enthusiastically participated in the many fundraising events that took place throughout the year, eg. Morley Fun Day, Leeds 10k run, and the Brightening Children’s Lives Summer Ball.

Thank you Irwin Mitchell for a fantastic year of support for a very worthwhile charity.
