The charity is delighted to announce that Paulla McCann has joined the charity in the position of Corporate Fundraiser.  Paulla has a background in the events and fundraising industry and has come on board to help the charity, initially on a part-time basis.

We welcome Paulla aboard and are certain that this appointment will push the charity forward and help us to forge closer links with all of our corporate supporters.  If you haven’t yet heard from Paulla she will be getting in touch to introduce herself very soon!

Irwin Mitchell raises £8405 across its Charity of the Year campaign

Irwin Mitchell presented the charity with a cheque for £8,405 at their New Year party on 2 February 2012.  This money had been collected over the last year and match funded by the firm as part of its commitment to raise money for the charity in its ‘Charity of the Year’ campaign.

We would like to sincerely thank Irwin Mitchell for their fundraising efforts over the last 12 months and we are delighted an association such as this can have such a major impact on the local community.  To put Irwin Mitchell’s fundraising efforts into perspective, the money raised will cover the cost of 56 children attending Silverdale for a week’s break over 2012 – or a month’s intake of disadvantage children. 2012.  This money had been collected over the last year and match funded by the firm as part of its commitment to raise money for the charity in its ‘Charity of the Year’ campaign.

Radisson Blu raise £130 through Pancake Extravaganza

Many thanks to the Radission Blu Leeds team who recently held a staff eating pancake competition to raise money for Leeds Children’s Charity.   In addition to the eating competition the hotel also erected a pancake topping station in the lobby in the evening where they gave out free pancakes (donation optional) with their guest’s preferred topping.  A great time was had by all, and we raised £130! Thanks to all the Radisson Blu staff who took part (pictured  with Charity Trustees).

    Leeds Children’s Charity Move….Upstairs

The Leeds Children’s Charity as completed the arduous task of moving offices…even if it only was a few yards – upstairs!  Please note that our new address is Suite 12, 6-8 York Place, Leeds, LS1 2DS.  All of our other contact details have remained the same.

We suffered downtime in our previous office as vandals managed to get in and burst some water pipes, meaning that we turned up on a Monday morning to be greeted by 3 feet of water.  Now we are on the 1st floor as opposed to the basement and have a much more pleasant working environment and also much better disabled and elderly access.

If you would like to pop round to learn a bit more about the charity our door is always open for a cup of tea and a biscuit!

    Charity Boosted by Christmas Donations

The Leeds Children’s Charity would like to thank a couple of companies who were involved in donation and fundraising campaigns over the Christmas period.  First of all thanks to DWF who made a £500 donation to the charity and Shanco Construction, who have donated £600 to the charity in lieu of Christmas gifts that they would normally give.

In addition we also like to thank  One Medicare @ The Light, who chose Leeds Children’s Charity as the charity their Christmas Giving Tree campaign would benefit from .  This is an annual campaign where the centre urges patients, employees and local residents to buy an extra present whilst they are out doing their Christmas shopping and donate it to the appeal by placing it under the centre’s Giving Tree.   Any gifts they receive under the tree at the Centre get donated to a charity of their choosing.

Aviva, who have been supporting the charity throughout the year, also collected Christmas gifts for the children including toys, pyjamas, games, and a very much appreciated digital camera.

Thanks to everyone who helped the charity in some way over the festive period, it is good to see that the Christmas spirit is still alive and kicking within Leeds.

Rob goes for 2012 miles in 2012 – Pain for Gain!

The charity would like to offer a massive thank you to Rob Staines who has undertaken the painstaking task of travelling 2012 miles during 2012 under his own steam – all in the aid of the Leeds Children’s Charity!

His challenge is to do 2012 miles in 2012 – through running, walking, cycling, rowing, swimming and cross training with at least 25% covered via running  – a staggering 503 miles !

In total the challenge equates to travelling 5.5 miles a day on average, or an equivalent of 168 miles a month!

He is hoping to raise £500 for the charity – which would equate to sending at least three children on a week’s break at Silverdale.  To help Rob achieve his target please sponsor our hero. – you can do so at t http://www.justgiving.com/RobStaines2012.  You can do a lump sum sponsorship or per mile

    For example –

    1p a mile is £20.12

    0.5p a mile is £10.06

    0.25p a mile is £5.03

Good luck Rob and remember your pain will be the children of Leeds’ gain!  We will hopefully keep you updated on Rob’s progress throughout the year!

New lawnmower delivered to Leeds Children’s Holiday Centre

The members of the Silverdale Committee have raised sufficient funds to purchase a new lawnmower from John Kaberry Limited, North Hykeham, Lincoln, to be used at the Leeds Children’s Holiday Centre, Silverdale, near Morecambe.  Our old mower has been lovingly maintained by Steven Metcalfe, our caretaker, in order to keep it going for as long as possible and it has given great service for many years.

We are extremely grateful to John Kaberry and his son, Jonathan, for personally delivering the lawnmower and for their interest in the charity and its service.

The Silverdale Committee was founded in the early 1900s to support the Leeds Children’s Charity and to raise funds to help maintain the Leeds Children’s Holiday Centre and the hundreds of children who enjoy a free residential short break/respite.  The current committee members are constantly working hard to raise funds for projects undertaken at the holiday centre including refurbishing the swimming pool, purchase of washing machines, assistance with replacement of toilets and urinals, assistance with the tarmacing of the drive and forecourt, and many more.

If you would like to help the Leeds Children’s Charity or to know more about the work of the charity, please contact info@leedschildrenscharity.org.uk or telephone 01132454281.
