Everyone a winner at the Final Judging of the 2012 Silverdale Colouring Competition

28 finalists gathered together at the Civic Hall, Leeds, on Saturday 1 December 2012 to find out who was the overall winner of the 2012 Silverdale Colouring Competition.  The event was judged by the Lord Mayor, Cllr Ann Castle, Lord Mayor’s Consort, Graham Castle, and Drew Hayley of Northern Rail.  Refreshments were very generously sponsored by Dine Hospitality.

DSCF0922Over 400 disadvantaged children enjoyed a holiday at Leeds Children’s Holiday Centre during 2012, and every child was encouraged to take part in the colouring competition.  A winner was chosen for each week and a small prize was given at that time.  The 28 finalists and their families enjoyed a morning in the Civic Hall that was festooned with lovely Christmas decorations.  For some, this would have been the first opportunity for them to see inside the building.  A quiz had been organised for the children to undertake whilst the judging was taking place, and this allowed the children time to see the many marvellous items displaying in the cabinets of the Banqueting Suite of the Civic Hall.

DSCF0932The overall winner was Paige May of Castleton Primary School who was thrilled with her prize.  The winner’s cup will be engraved with Paige’s name and presented to her at the school where it will remain for one year.  First, second and third prizes for the competition were very generously sponsored again by Northern Rail.  Drew Hayley said that it was always a pleasure to support such a worthwhile charity and to see what a difference it makes.
