Lisa Worsnop School of Dance entertains to help children of Leeds

A very special thanks is owed to the pupils of the Lisa Worsnop School of Dance for their amazing dancing and singing talent and skills presented to friends and family in order to raise funds for the work of the Leeds Children’s Charity.  The show, ‘Curtain Call’ was a pleasure to watch from start to finish.  Pupils from 4 to 40 took part in the show and they were all bright, enthusiastic, and entertaining stars of the night.

SILVER KIDS 4The charity was chosen to be the recipient of money raised from three shows that took place on 7 and 8 December 2012 for which we are enormously grateful.

Lisa Holmes, the dance teacher, said that it was a pleasure to raise money for such a worthy cause.  Nearly £300 was raised from a raffle, loose change was collected in buckets as the audiences left the building, and a donation is to be made to the charity from ticket sales and revenue raised from the sale of DVDs of the show.  All the money donated will be used to provide free residential short breaks/respite for disadvantaged and socially excluded children of Leeds aged 7 to 11 years.

The charity will provide nearly 500 holiday places during 2013, and the money received from this fundraising event will help the trustees to achieve their target.

Spirit of Christmas Fayre raises money to help children of Leeds

A team of BA (Hons) Events Management students at Leeds Metropolitan University organised the amazing Spirit of Christmas Fayre to raise funds for the Leeds Children’s Charity last weekend.  The Cinnamon Team, consisting of Nicola Rose, Antje Strietholt, James Ingleby, Molly Ridley, Alex Robson, and Josh Atherton, are all BA (Hons) Events Management students.  The event was organised as part of the students’ Professional Events Solutions module task in order to raise the profile of the charity and to generate revenue.

P1040207The fayre was opened by the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Cllr Ann Castle, who is the President of the Leeds Children’s Charity during her term of office.

There were lots of stalls offering a variety of Christmas goods for all ages, a tombola, and a raffle with prizes donated by many generous sponsors including Blue Logic Computer Services Limited, Clark Business Recovery, DWF LLP, Aviva, and more.

The event raised over £400, and this money will be used to provide a short break/respite by the sea for two disadvantaged children.

The trustees of the Leeds Children’s Charity were delighted to work with the students to ensure that the event was a success.  Nicola McCullough, tutor at the university, said that she had been really impressed by the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the students, and their obvious enjoyment at working for the charity and its very worthwhile purpose.

Variety Children’s Charity award supports the Leeds Children’s Charity

An amazing award from the Variety Children’s Charity to purchase a Hurricane Swing to add to the outdoor play area at Leeds Children’s Holiday Centre, Silverdale, will benefit many hundreds of children who enjoy a holiday by the sea.

The project is to replace the existing wooden equipment with modern, colourful, imaginative outdoor pieces.  Awards have been received from Wade’s Charity, Hedley Foundation, Beatrice Laing Foundation, Leeds Building Society Charitable Foundation, and the Variety Children’s Charity.  Fundraising activities have also been organised by the staff at the Leeds children’s’ Holiday Centre to raise more monies to complete the project.

A total of £22,250 is required and the charity has raised £18,500 to date.  It is hoped that the equipment will be in place in time for the 2013 summer season.  The equipment that will make up the play area is a Hurricane Swing, Rota Web Climber, Dizzy, Activity Trail, and 20m Zip Wire.

Some of the children who will use the play area live in high-rise flats or houses where it is unsafe for them to play outside, and the opportunity to run on grass, play in the fresh air, and enjoy the outdoor play equipment is a wonderful new experience.

If you would like to help create this amazing play area, or support the Leeds Children’s Charity in any way, please contact 0113 245 4281, or info@leedschildrenscharity.org.uk.

Liverpool to Leeds – sponsored 127 mile cycle ride along the canal for charity

Steven Dawson, Head of Costs Department, DWF LLP, has completed a 127 mile cycle from Liverpool to Leeds, along the canal to raise funds on behalf of the work of the Leeds Children’s Charity.   DWF LLP have nominated the Leeds Children’s Charity as their Charity of the Year for 2012 and this is just one of many fundraising activities that are being organised to help raise money and resources for the charity.

Approximately £485 has already been raised for the charity by this amazing challenge and if you would like to add to this total, the sponsorship site is  http://www.justgiving.com/SteveDawson.

We are extremely grateful to Steve for his support and encouragement to others to raise funds on our behalf.  The money will be used to provide free residential short breaks/respite for disadvantaged children of Leeds aged 7 to 11 year who would not otherwise have the opportunity to have fun, play, or be a child away from difficult home situations or responsibilities beyond their years.

Over 400 children will enjoy a holiday by the sea during the 2012 holiday season and we would like to thank Steve and all his sponsors for the help given to help make this possible.

If you would like to support the Leeds Children’s Charity, please contact either by telephone 0113 245 4281 or email info@leedschildrenscharity.org.uk

Another successful year for the Leeds Children’s Charity ..

387 children have enjoyed a week at Silverdale, 39 had a fantastic activity weekend, 23 young carers had a break from responsibilities beyond their years, 53 young children from Chernobyl relaxed during their holiday by the sea, 11 volunteers from 3 different countries offered their help to add another dimension to the holiday, and 10 dedicated staff worked extremely hard in order to provide a holiday of a lifetime for every child at Silverdale during the 2011 holiday season.

Many thanks to everyone who made it possible for so many children to have a short break/respite by the sea.

The trustees would like to provide even more holiday places for disadvantaged children during 2012 and this can be achieved with your help.

If you would like to support the Leeds Children’s Charity, or help in any way, please contact info@leedschildrenscharity.org.uk or telephone 0113 245 4281.
